New Edition - Live In Greensboro!

Photos and Review By Nick Wood

It was an evening filled with R&B and Soul as the Legacy Tour made its stop in Greensboro, North Carolina, last week. Grammy-nominated act New Edition headlined the show with R&B legends Keith Sweat, Guy, and Tank supporting. R&B singer, and songwriter, Tank opened, creating the atmosphere for the show. Hip Hop Soul trio Guy took the stage after Tank, playing hit songs like Teddy's Jam and Piece of My Love. The group had all three original members, Teddy Riley (Vocals, Keyboard), Aaron Hall (Vocals), and Damion Hill (Vocals). Keith Sweat was next with a longer set than the previous two, lasting about an hour. Opening with Make You Sweat, he jived alongside his crew of dancers decked out in red jumpsuits featuring his signature KS logo. Up next, New Edition, comprised of the original lineup of Bobby Brown (Vocals), Ronnie DeVoe (Vocals), Ricky Bell (Vocals), Michael Bivins (Vocals), Johnny Gill (Vocals), and Ralph Tresvant (Vocals), started their set by rising

from the floor and pausing for a moment to capture the attention of the audience. The show opened with an amazing performance of Crucial. After performing If It Isn't Love, the group decided to take it back to 1983, singing the well-known hit Candy Girl. The stage was full of a nostalgic feel, with a jukebox being displayed on the screen and a fictional marquee with all of the classic dance moves. Packing out the Greensboro Coliseum on a Sunday night, fans from all ages attended, proving that New Edition's music stands the test of time, bringing in new fans, generation after generation. The group went with a more modern taste on some of the songs with more bass than the original; while the performance was great, the modern touch lost some of that classic feel. New Edition's setlist was filled with all the classics, including all band members' solo work with songs such as My Prerogative, There U Go, and Poison (Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, and Bell Biv DeVoe). The Legacy Tour is wrapping up soon, with only three dates remaining. Make sure to get your tickets before they are gone; you will not regret it!
